I'm really interested in how other people chose their dietary lifestyle! Personally, its for moral reasons that I feel that, putting animals down for my consumption, kinda makes me uncomfortable. But again I have been conditioned to eating meat all my life so there is still this idea in the back of my head that I should consume some meat.
I'm just curious to see or hear, why other peers might be eating only veggies? Religious purposes, health concerns, morality shifts, or maybe just because you don't like meat? What's your story being a veggie eater?
This story seems so cheesy now but I'll share anyways. I remember learning about the different groups of animals; mammals, birds, reptiles, etc. when I was in 5th grade. Very shortly after learning this, I saw some seagulls fighting over some kid's leftover chicken nuggets during lunch time. My first thought was "that's so messed up; a bird eating another bird is like cannibalism." After that, I couldn't stop thinking about how I was an mammal eating other mammals and it was making me pretty uncomfortable. I then informed my parents that my days of eating cows and pigs were behind me and so my journey towards becoming a vegetarian began. I continued eating birds and fish for about a few years when my parents decided to go vegetarian to try to be healthier. Since I was already halfway there, I decided to go vegetarian as well. This is also when I began researching and learning more about the environmental and health benefits of reducing and eliminating meat consumption which is what sparked my interest in environmental studies.
